OH has a 52 plate 1.8 petrol Mondeo estate, averages about 31mpg on normal use, but that goes up to approx 38mpg on long/motorway runs, BUT drops to low 20's when towing the caravan. We used to travel Dunc in the back behind a custom made dog guard, but he learnt how to bypass it to get to the back seats. We have now discovered it easier to fold the back seat down and use a 'normal' dog crate which leaves the rear area for luggage etc and the cover keeps prying eyes of our stuff. Must admit its a bit of a squeeze for two in the crate now that we have Maizie and Dunc is going through the 'dont touch me' stage at present so we are maybe looking at a larger crate or a custom made one in the rear area. Only downside with current configuration is that it means we cannot carry any extra passengers.

I have a MG ZR 1.4 that does approx 33mpg round town and top 30's on a long run, but as the rear seat does not fold completely flat I cannot get a crate of any description in the rear, and due to the slope on the rear window there is not a lot of head room in the 'boot' area so the dogs travel on the back seat with harness's on, and to be honest being weims they prefer the comfort of a proper seat! I keep expecting them to sit there doing the royal wave as we pass people!
I'm Nina, currently owned by weims Dunc n Mazie!

Thought for the day....

Took Lucy with us when we purchased our new car.

Dealer was happy for us to try her for size in the back.

One female Weimaraner + basket just fits in the hatch of a 2L Golf Sport 07, tinted rear windows keeps the sun off.

Hopes this helps if anyones thinking of a Golf.

I wonder if I'll ever find an estate with plenty of headroom? We're also considering a Vectra. I'll definitely take them with us when we buy our next car.

There are some photos missing in the first couple of pages if the owners wouldn't mind replacing them? :)

Well, on long car rides, she'll curl up either on the front seat, or on her bed, on the back seat.
This time she was pissing me off..........
after that, she settled down in the back seat, and pouted.

Errmmm we got rid of the 328 and changed it for a 525 touring.

The when I had to rehome Obi, I threw a strop and sold the 525 so Casper is currently carless.

If we want to take him out we all have to go in OH's bus (aka taxi) which is a Vauxhall Vivaro, plenty of room for all of us in there.

We are currently looking at cars and I have given the OH the following list of requirements:

Large boot - to fit dog and pushchair
Seven seats
Four wheel drive
Comfort :D
Speed

unfortunately because I really want more than 5 seats, it looks like all my favourite Beamers are out. So favourite choice so far would be Mercedes ML :D

Only time will tell :rwl:

Will post one of the volvo when U get a moment, feel free to remind me :?

We bought a new car at the weekend with Blue being so poorly we decided K needed wheels too. We went up hill and down dale with trying to decide big car/little car/nice car/dog car/big engine/tiny engine/practical/fun.

In the end we decided on a human only mid life crisisish cabriolet :rwl:

It's one like this. http://www.virtual-showroom.co.uk/image ... 6_2400.jpg

The dogs will only be allowed in it in an emergency! They have their own car.

The plan is when the Fiesta finally dies K can take the Peugot and I'll upgrade, it's big enough for the dogs and has a decent size engine and boot so okay for holidays . It's a shame they won't be allowed in, they would look gorgeous, it's just their colour :D
When I read about the evils of drinking I gave up reading

 Gemma you don't ask much! The 525 Touring beamers look huge, I really fancy one of those!

Lou, the dogs would look great in that with the roof down and the wind blowing in their ears!

Yep the 525 touring's are huugggeee.

The one I had was well perfect really, huge, full black leather, dual climate control, dvd player, bluetooth system, electric everything (leccy seats are lovely), top of the rage alarm and tracker.

BUT I had just had a baby, just had to rehome Obi, hormones were flowing and I decided if I couldnt have Obi then I didnt want the car that we had bought specifically to carry 3 kids and TWO weims :(

Oh well onwards and upwards.

Still have a lovely 523 saloon to drive but I definately cant fit 3 kids and 1 weim in it :rwl:

Cleo you cheeky thing - you are riding upfront with the humans, and in one of their seatbelts - and you still look slightly miffed lol. Thats brilliant!!!!!

I am picking up my 2005 Susuki Grand Vitara up tomorrow (tres excited) and need to train my 4 month boy Wuuuuuufus (aka Rufus) to go in the boot rather than be right next to me at all times!!!!! Anyone with this car with any experience???

Also should the dog be harnessed still in the boot, I have not got him a cage, but a guard so being only little (ish) should he still be harnessed in as I am worried he will just roll around????

Sligtly concerned pupster mum!!! Brilliant link by the way!!!
